If you’re anything like me, when you’re feeling kind of down, you start to analyze why you are feeling the way you feel so that next time you can “change” it and not feel the same way. What many of us, including myself, have failed to understand is that nothing exists without contrast. Examples would be the feeling of happiness. Without other emotions such as sad, excited, anxious, angry, mad, etc, happiness would not exist. If something becomes constant, it just is. It not longer becomes that emotion. If we were always one specific emotion, then it would no longer be that emotion. If we were always sad, then we would not recognize that emotion as sad. That is what separates from robots. The fact that we have different emotions and feelings and that we are constantly changing.

So you’re probably wondering how this relates to feeling “down.” Without temporary feelings of not being happy, there would be no happiness because one cannot exist without the other. When you’re having a bad day, realize that it is only temporary, just as every emotion is temporary. Do not fight it. Fighting or ignoring your emotion may lead to repression which will cause further problems down the line. Be with your emotion and realize that it is apart of you. Understand and reflect on it and you will soon realize that after a while, your emotion will pass by and you will not consider that feeling threatening anymore. Your emotions are not separate entities. They are apart of you so do not fight them. Realize that feelings of “not happy” are necessary for all the great moments to come and that feeling down from time to time is simply a part of life. Life in itself is beautiful. The process of life is truly amazing and should be appreciated for its intricacy and beauty. There are so many spectacular aspects to life and every second of it should be appreciated.

Great insight on life. I usually feel down but realizing things like this has helped me understand it only foreshadows the good in life.
