Ever wonder why your skin turns red in hot weather or during exercise? When body temperature rises, the skin’s blood vessels widen, which causes an increase in blood flow to the skin and enables more heat to be released into the environment.  The opposite occurs in cold conditions. The blood vessels in the skin constrict, restricting blood flow near the surface and thus, conserving body heat.

I understand the importance of water during a workout, but i know i dont drink more than one bottle the entire 60 min workout. I do alot of sprints, so i dont want to get a stitch on the next sprint cycle so i drink 2-3 swallows at a time until the bottle is gone, usallly by the end of the workout. Then as i am winding down, i drink v8 and eat protien and have another bottle of water, this time flavored with crystal lite. – 9

I highly recommend you consume a little more water than you are consuming for optimal health and performance. According to the American Council on Exercise you should be consuming about 20 oz of water 3 hours prior to your workout and then anther 8 oz about 30 minutes before your workout. You should also consume about 7 to 10 oz of water every 10-20 minutes when exercise and another 8 oz after completing your workout. Additionally, weigh yourself before and after your workout and drink an additional 16 ounces for every pound lost during the workout. I know it sounds confusing and complicated, but the importance of hydration during exercise cannot be stressed enough. To simplify it, you should be drinking water constantly throughout the day and even more so prior, during, and after exercise, especially intense exercise such as sprints. Consuming a v8 and protein is good after your workout, and I would recommend maybe adding a fruit like a banana for a good source of simple carbs. Thanks for the comment!
